There is something humbling about mountains.

Maybe it’s their tall and grandiose appearance or the initial intimidation when you cast your eyes on it. But ultimately, the most humbling part is the sense of accomplishment that you get after reaching the top.  The feeling of achievement, appreciation for the journey, and the chance to be outdoors.  And don’t forget the view from the top.

We all have our dreams and visions for our lives.  Some are easy to reach, other takes a little more planning and time.  But ultimately, it’s a journey to reach the dream, to reach the top.

When following a pathway up a mountain, it’s vital to keep your eyes on the path, making sure where you tread, keeping an eye open for any obstacles along the way.  And every now and then to stop to breathe, but also to look up to the top, determining how far to go, and also looking down, to see how far you have come.

Looking up helps you keep your eyes on the goal  –  to reach the top.  But you can’t do both walking and looking up.

This is life.  We have a dream or a vision or a goal, but keeping your eyes focused just on reaching the top, can cause you to stumble and fall.  To loose your path or even be drawn away from the end goal.  Keep your eyes on the path.  There are no short cuts to life.  Following the path you set out in the beginning will lead you straight to your dream.  Keep your head down and climb.  Focus at what you can do now to reach the top.  And then every now and then stop. Breathe. And look up.  The dream is still there, and you are still on the right path.

Often life throws us curve balls in the form of other paths leading out of the one we are following.  The look up at the dream again.  Focus on reaching the top, then follow the path that will take you there.  Put your head down and climb.

Don’t let your desire to reach the dream, to reach the top, make you forget the journey to get there.  Sometimes we are so focused on the end, that we forget the beauty around us along the way.  Looking up is great and needed, but walking on the path builds character, forms you, makes you stronger, so that when you reach the top, you will be ready for what ever adventure lies beyond your dream.
